Default Transmission service - gear indicator inop

I just completed a transmission service on our Cayenne; drained oil, dropped pan, R&R filter, re-install pan w/new gasket, refilled transmission with Type IV oil following the cold fill then start and fill more until overflow while idling and helper (wife) rowing through the gears then fill plug installed while still at idle and shutdown engine.

Went for a short test drive and noted 2 points: transmission moves through all gears as before although a little slow to engage drive from a standstill (fluid is perhaps needing a little more) and gear indicator shows 'D' in all gears.........appreciate comments if both are related. TIA

Doubtful if the problems are related IMHO.

Look where you last worked.. (Eilenberge's Law of Troubleshooting..)

Make sure all your connectors to the transmission are clean and connected. If necessary disconnect, clean with contact cleaner and reinstall.

I didn't see that you measured the transmission oil temperature when setting the level. That's pretty much vital to get it right.

thanks........I measured the temp with an IR gun.

I just finished adding more fluid, back to normal operation, all gears, shall check again when cold in morning.

I wonder if it needs a durametric hooked up to clear codes which may fix the gear indicator.

on a longer drive today (~300km) the transmission initially shifted between 4th and 5th with a increase in engine revs (like a clutch) slip and then as the trip progressed shifted normal. I believe it may need another small amount of oil now that its been thoroughly heat cycled and through all gears multiple times.

The gear indicator remains as before showing 'D' in all gears.

Given the transmisson was serviced I also completed an oil change for the front and rear diffs and transfer case.

Drain and fill pugs are an 8mm hex and as always remove the fill before draining.

The OEM oils were well used and needed replacing albeit I hadnt any issues.

I used the same electric pump configuration I had made up for the transmission to fill the transfer case and then the diffs...............all done. I now contemplate if I'll get another 240k kms (for a grand total of ~500k kms) on this vehicle to changes these oils again?
