"Open the fold-out Sunglass overhead cover and there will be an M4 hex allen hole located way up inside the shell of the overhead panel."
Sorry, can somebody provide photos or instructions on how to do this? I am not sure what the 'sunglass overhead cover is.' I also have a stuck closed pan roof sun shade on my 2012 cayenne. my glass panels are opening and closing fine. indeed, i can open and close the glass panels with the switch even though the sun shade remains closed, something the mechanics said should not be possible normally as they thought they were mechanically interlinked. as with the original poster, i just want to get it open again and permanently open.
i had taken this issue to a porsche specialist garage who told me that they think they have to remove all the roof liners and such - a big job - even just to close the sun shade once. but, they were not sure and asked me to come back at the end of the summer (!) when they'd be less busy. i'd rather do it myself and save the cost and enjoy the summer, of course!
thanks!

Hey thank you rig4675! i thought that's what you were talking about but since the porsche speicalists had already opened that panel and didnt do that i figured it would be something else. maybe they just were unfamiliar with the panroofs and cayennes in general (they are more of a sports car shop) and just missed it. i will try it as soon as it dries out a bit (raining hard here). i guess also in the book i only saw info about the panroof itself there, not the sun shade, but if you guys say i can open the sun shade from there too, that's awesome.
now, let me tell you the other impossible thing (i am based in the UK and the USA - this car is in the UK): to find dark brown right hand drive floor mats for my cayenne (I'm sure it's possible through the dealer at some crazy price ). Brits in particular nearly universally buy cars with black leather only so if you have a car with something else - lord help you. but this is a solvable problem .
many thanks!

Glad to help, There are so many other members that have been a huge help to me on this site.I actually removed two of my motors with the assistance of another member, and have now an idea of how they work.
The center of one of the gears there is hex key indentation this is where you insert the allen key. You must push up (you will feel it move upward ) this moves the center piece of the gear and disengages it from the motor thus allowing you to manually move the sun shade . One of mine took me using the palm of my hand to gently tap on the allen wrench to finally move it up and disengage it from the motor. Remember you must continue to keep the center allen head pushed up to keep it disengaged while you turn it.
If the floor mat is impossible to locate I might suggest Weather Tech floor mats I know they are not OEM but I have found them to be of excellent quality, although they may not be in the color you are looking for.

Panoramic sunroof motor gears (Dilberto)
Dilberto,
Apologies for reviving an old thread but I recently purchased an '06 base Cayenne and am struggling to resolve some issues with the panoramic roof. After hearing the sound of a stripped gear in the motor that controls the vent/first panel, I removed the headliner. I then determined that the wiring harness (sunroof switch to main control unit) was damaged and I have ordered a replacement from Germany. I came across your old thread and was curious to learn if you still had these sunroof motor gears available? Unfortunately, I just created my account and am unable to send you a private message. I can be reached at j3blaha@gmail.com if you are able to help out.
Thank you in advance,
Jason

Stripped bolt?
Hey all, I’m in a bind here, pun intended
I had manually opened both panels and cleaned out the rails. Found some gum wrappers and a cig butt in there and it was also very gunked up and dirty. I closed the rear panel first and then cranked the front one closed. The front was harder for sure, but as soon as it got to those metal F shaped type bars on the rails I felt some resistance. I stopped, reverses it, and unlatched them to see if that would work. I still felt resistance going forward but ended up stripping that 4mm female opening. Any advice?

@Dilberto,
I am troubleshooting my sunshade not working, which in turn, nothing works. With my computer, I am getting a sunshade hall monitor fault and when I manually move the sunshade and watch the signal coming from computer. The signal stays the same. This tells me that the car's computer doesn't recognize when I put the sunshade all the way back or all the way forward and will not allow a resync with the button. My question I have for you, is you have this great tech manual page. But only the first page of parts is shown. On the second page, is there a part listed as any kind of position sensor for the sunshade? If not, I am going to assume it is part of the motor electronics. I forgot to mention, when I do press the reset button to reset, the sunshade motor does move briefly (less than a sec) and stops. So I think the motor is good if I don't have to replace the motor. I just think it isn't getting any feedback on the sunshade moving and errors out.
Thank you!

no it doesnt. I tried the reset procedure with no movement other than the sunshade motor moving for a split second. This makes me think the computer believes the sunshade needs to move first. Using my scan tool, I can see the rotary voltage changes when I rotate the ****. I can also see the change when I push the sunshade open or close, so that tells me the switches are working. When I manually crank the sunshade, there is no change in position on my scan tool. This makes me think the position sensor isn't working. I just can't find if the position sensor is part of the sunshade motor or if it is a separate sensor. I got it down to a 1 of 2 things. I haven't been able to find any reference of a position sensor, so I believe it is in the motor. But the motor is expensive to buy, if that is not the problem.
Thank you for any help you can give
