Put ceratec moly in the oil too. Can't hurt. I regularly drive mine in the super cold. I start it in the super cold. It lived it's whole life in the upper Midwest (Minneapolis and then Dubuque, IA). Has 190,000 on it now. You just have to be smart about what you do to minimize your damage chances.

What is the year, price, and mileage of the Cayenne(s) your considering?
Are you able to work on the car yourself?
sounds like there are a lot of issues with the one you're asking about. It's all a matter of risk/reward with these vehicles.

Apologize for my tardiness.

The car with the issues sold, and that was probably for the better.

Currently looking at an 2007 V6. 150k miles and two owners. It seemingly has more equipment than most V6s, i.e. a nice brownish interior and the full panorama roof (which I understand can be a nightmare to deal with?). Am I right to assume 2007 was the first years since introduction with a facelift? I personally like the fascia/bumpers/lights of the pre-facelift better, but were there any other veritable upgrades or purely aesthetics? I believe there was some interior upgrades (infotainment?) at one point before 2010, but basically I understand all cars up until that year to be (mechanically) identical?

The 2007 model was a changeover year. It was not sold worldwide. I can't remember if it is a 955 or 957, but to answer your question, 'no.' There were not any real changes in the 957 over the 955 V6. In the higher end models there were some additional options that you could get on the 957 like PDCC and bluetooth came in later years. With the v6 there won't be much of a difference between the 955 and 957 other than the facelift between 2003 and 2010.

I went for the V6 because of the know problems with the V8, being an old car, things will break and fail, since the V6 shares many parts with VW, it will be cheaper to fix.
the 955 (03-06) is 3.2 V6 250hp
the 957 (07-10) is 3.6 V6 290hp

Don't overthink it, the 955's are so cheap these days, it's worth the risk if you do your homework on the vehicle you're considering. Look at the maintenance history. If it's been maintained, and is up to date, roll the dice and get one. Drive the hell out of it, and enjoy. You're talking about a $10-$17K car, that sold for $80K new. Oh, don't buy a V6 because you're concerned about cylinder scoring (unless you're buying it for your grandma). Jump in and enjoy the ride.
