Default What to do with used rotors?

I changed the front and rear rotors on my '06 CTTS. The existing rotors had about 85k miles on them and they are still within the wear limit, but there are serious grooves on them.

Any suggestions on what to do with these rotors?

Check and see if your house has a blue recycle bin next to it.

Rotor lip groove or rotor surface scoring? I believe 2mm is the max, for edge wear.

I use old rotors to hold the blue recycling bin lid closed when it's windy...

They're probably worth something as scrap metal. Will go to China, be melted down and return here as new rotors.. the cycle of life in a nutshell.

And I wonder if it actually costs less to go through that full cycle of steel recycling, rotor remanufacturing, and a round trip to China in there too ... vs. taking them off and paying an American to turn them down so they're like new.

I always do the latter, as long as the thickness is in spec.

The CTTS rotors are pretty cool. Hang em on the wall in your garage,

I let my scrap pile up, once or twice a year when I am tired of looking at it, I carry it to the end of the driveway, and it is usually gone within four hours. If it is not, I post on Craigslist for free, then it is gone within an hour.

They make good anchors for strapping down your tent/shade canopy at track days, races, picnics....

I've seen entertainers frame them, put a plaque that says platinum and hang them on their wall.

Choose one or more of the following options:
1. Practice your discus throwing?
2. Sharpen the edges, then add an old wheel bearing and a long handle to create the world's largest pizza cutter?
3. Yard decoration "rural Kentucky chic" style?
4. Put them in a box with other old car parts and take to the county recyling yard when the box is full.

I usually go with option 4.

Where can you get your rotors turned nowadays? I need to put in new front pads and the rotors look good with a small lip. I'd like to verify if the stories about turned rotors warping and causing other trouble are true.

AS long as the rotors remain within the allowed thickness - there should be no problem with "warping" (which is actually super rare anyway..)
