Trailer wiring to satisfy a Cayenne's computer?
I worked all afternoon yesterday with an electrician in an attempt to wire the lights on the trailer for my UTV in a manner that my '04 CS with factory hitch would tolerate. While his Dodge Journey had no problem with the trailer lights, Ruby would repeat the "Check Trailer Lights!" warning, with a loud beep, at frequent intervals. I put Ruby back in the garage and hitched up my 4 cylinder Tacoma for the haul today, but for heavier loads I need to use the Cayenne. Could it be a programming problem with the computer, or do I need to wire my trailers differently?

Does your trailer have LED lights? There is an adapter made by Curt for our vehicles for them that is supposed to help. I have it but haven't tried it.

Tom: I have used the tandem trailer to carry my Polaris Ranger and general cargo since I hired a welder to build it in 2010.
Jeff: They are conventional incandescent lights. I helped my son put resistors on the LEDs on his car trailer. They work. These don't.
Ruby doesn't mind the lights on my boat trailer, a factory job.

In this case Ruby would sense the light bulbs and immediately refuse to illuminate them. We even put an extra ground on the left rear to see if that would help. Not with Ruby, but the Dodge liked it.

Bosch electronics as used on the Cayenne, X5, ML, Audi, etc are not LED aware. They expect a current pull from incandescent lights and if it's not there, they assume the light is burned out. Then they cut power or do weird things. This is what you want
I realize you don't have LED's but give it a shot. GL, dave

MR Turco,
the adapter you listed has happy reviews from Touareg owners, so I'll go out on a limb and say that it probably works fine with the P!g. If not, Amazon has free returns....
cheers,
