Rears are correct size if you have 17" wheels
Fronts you need to check on using this tire calculator. This is what I use all the time.

I appreciate advise and charts and anything helpful. In this case I am looking only for this info.
Can I use a 225/45/17 tire on a stock 17" 986 rim on a stock 986 and have no residual problems?

We run 235s on the fronts in SPB, 255s with a rear wheel up there. I don't see why a 225 won't fit on a stock setup.

I run 225/45/17 on the front OEM 986 Boxster 7x17 wheels no problem, I have some on there right now I like it a lot better than the stock 205/50/17 fronts which were understeer city.

That size will work for sure and as steve0x says it looks better then the skinny 205s! I ran that exact size combo for 5yrs before changing to 18" wheels.
As suggested though, check all your date codes to be sure they're not old tires.
