Now I do have a few questions on replacing the valve.

Is it a good idea to put silicone or any kind of sealant on the threads of the screws?

I see that they need to be handled with kid gloves or it's new tank time.

I'm really hoping that this solves the problem.

Thanks for the help.
Kind of hard to keep up with all this coolant leaking business...

My memory is the bleeder valve is part of the tank and is not available separately and is not a serviceable item. (I seem to recall the screws are not reusable.) If the bleeder valve is indeed bad then the tank is bad, defective, and should be replaced under warranty, assuming there is a warranty on parts/labor.

You might find the info at this link of some value:

I think it is a replaceable part.
If I can not have to pay the $600 in labor for the tank, I'm willing to try this first.

If you find you are able to replace just the valve then obviously that's better than replacing the tank especially if the tank has no parts/labor warranty associated with it.

This should come as no surprise....
The tank has a warranty, but the labor does not. (the mechanic only uses Porsche parts)
I really hope this solves this problem until the next one.
We will know in a few days.
The good signs are the engine runs strong, no intermix evidence, and I'm contemplating some sort of dance to the gods of the m96 that I'll be ok.

Thanks, I just got the valve today and am going to install it in the morning.
Does anyone know if it needs to be installed with the bail in the "open" position?
I saw that mentioned in this thread, but nowhere else

Thanks and I'll let you know what happens.

Replaced the bleeder valve today, filled it with distilled water, burped it, and drove it like I stole it for a bit.

No leaks, no temperature issues.

I may have dodged a bullet here.

Thanks for the help and encouragement.

I'm new to the world of Pcars.

I think the problem is solved.

Tomorrow I'll pour in the unicorn tears.

I LOVE my Boxster.

Well, there is one thing still plaguing me.
I have had all of the carpet pulled up from the trunk for a while now.
I filled it with coolant and drove it and am letting it cool down.
All seems well, except that the strange "rag carpet type thing" that goes across the rear of the bulkhead is wet in the lower right corner by the tank. It has not dried up since the meltdown. I think this may mean that there is steam or coolant leaking onto it ever so slightly or it just hasn't dried out yet.
It must be so small of an amount that it's not visible.
The tank is dry, the hoses seem dry, but that thing should not be wet. What is that, anyway?
How can I test it to see if it is indeed being leaked on?
When I press down on it, it's wet.
There's been so much water, coolant, overflow, etc in the past week that I can't tell if it's indeed just soaked or is continually getting wetter.

Yup...you have the "leaky tank"....it happened to me on a road trip. Wife got out of car and saw a couple drops of green coolant. Freak out mode because I'm 100 miles from a Porsche mechanic and 300 miles from my own mechanic. Close guy said bring it to him immediately. Called my indy mechanic and he asked how fast was I losing coolant. I told him maybe 1/2 a beer a day worth. He told me to enjoy the rest of my vacation, but bring it in when I got back, just carry a jug of coolant. I did and it got no worse. It never did get wet anywhere in the trunk. They are beech to change out so mech time is high.

Hello to everyone. I also have the same problem with leak...but in my case it is going from some sort of valve above gearbox. (this valve is not the part of coolant tank). Here is the photo -
So had smb the same problem and can you pls suggest some way to fix it (if problem not only in the valve).
