" Entry-Level Porsche Roadster Rumors Resurface

It’s a rumor we’ve heard on several occasions over the past few years, but if the latest reports are to be believed an entry-level Porsche roadster has finally been green lit.

Codenamed the 718, the entry-level model is seen as a successor to the 1950’s 550 Spyder race car, and will be based on a modified Boxer platform, albeit significantly lighter thanks to the liberal application of aluminum and smaller dimensions.
While cheaper than its sibling, it won’t be a low-cost car, and will come with a typically sophisticated cockpit, bucket seats, three-spoke steering wheel and a selection of analogue gauges. Buyers will choose between a 286-hp 2.0-liter flat-four and 360-hp 2.5-liter unit, with power sent to the rear wheels via a manual or dual-clutch DSG box.

If everything goes to plan, the Porsche 718 will debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show before going on sale in the US and Europe, priced from around $40,000, or around $10k cheaper than the Boxster. "
