Boxster S Vs 993

I am very seriously thinking of selling my 96 993 for a 2002 or2003 Boxster S. Have any of you done this?

Buzz:cheers:

buzz, why would you do that?

Favoring the 986 S:
mid-engine handling
convertible
reliability / warranty
available technology (PSM, litronics, etc.)
two trunks
styling (subjective)

Favoring the 993:
air-cooled engine (excellent sound)
extra 20 ponies of HP
911 prestige
rear seat (for small people)
styling (subjective)

I own a 986 S and have driven 993s. Having driven both, I think they are comparable from a day to day liveability standpoint. The 993 is a classic, no doubt. I'm sure they are great on the track.

Major question is how much you want the more modern comforts/technology of the 986S. Tough to beat having a drop top on a sunny day. The top is down 90% of the time in my Boxster.

Have you driven a Boxster S? A test drive would be invaluable. Let your pulse tell you what to do. :)

Both have strengths, both have weaknesses. It all depends on what you are looking for. This is a win win situation.

just consider this-the 96 993 represents the ultimate development of their naturally aspirated air cooled engine. it also has the classic 911 look, and has done a large percentage of it's depreciation already. the boxster is a great car, but to get rid of your carrera for it? hey, what a problem to have.

Thanks for the replys guys, It is just sometthing I am considering it neither good or bad my 993 is one great car. I think Sean M. sums it up very well thank you. I will continue to watch the Boxster site and go drive an Sand you know docjackson 1, these kind of proplems I can deal with because I just can't lose as I see it.

Thanks again

Don't sell....SAVE for a Boxster S. Then you'll have them both! Man what I'd do for that stable...

Buzz,

If you can afford it, don't buy both....

I have been 'considering' this for the past EIGHT MONTHS!!!
( '94 993 to newer 993 or Boxter S or getting something else as a daily driver) and over that time my opinion as changed like the wind

I have finally concluded the anwers is....... GT3
Why, because its a Porsche, because its new , because everybody agrees
they are good (no 993vs996 is it a proper sports car rivalry/rants, no anti boxster snobbery etc etc...)

Unfortunately I can't afford it,so if somebody would send me 20K I'll be extremely gratefull

It really IS a tough decision is nt it, a nice new car with everything working, warranty etc versus THE classic 911.

Back to my original point, if yo can afford to buy both, the extra insurance, service costs etc for the second car can be looked at as the interest on a loan payment to buy an even better car in the first place.
Also You can only drive one at a time and the temptation is always to take
out just one car and the other never gets used.

You only really want two cars if one is something really special
eg an immaculate classic or a race car
and if that was the case you would be considering getting rid of it.
( I'm guessing your 993 is not an immaculate garage queen and is showing the battle scars of regular everday use like mine).

Thanks guys
