2004 S or 2006 base - All things being equal

2004 S or 2006 base - All things being equal
So, I'm about ready to pull the trigger on my first Boxster. I have a set budget and have found 2 cars that are almost identical in features. Only difference between the two is one is 2004 S and the other is a base 2006. Both have about 50,000 kms and price difference is negligible.
Although subtle, I prefer the looks of the 2006. From the steering wheel, to the tail lights to the side intakes..etc...but having that S under my *** is also so desireable.
Any opinions either way?

Generally newer is better than older.
Base vs. S? That is a call only the buyer can make.
Drive both cars. Then decide if you want a base or an S.

I meant equal in that they are the same color, same mileage and have the same options...power memory seats, manual, etc...etc...only diff is age and engine.
Older but more-desireable engine, vs newer less-desireable engine.

lots of trade-offs
How do you plan to use it? Unless you plan to track it or otherwise compete, i don't see the benefit of an S. Heck, i competed in a base car for years, classing makes it just fine.
i have both a 986 and a 986S by the way. 986S is my "project" track car.
The newer car has the newer interior. The cosmetics are preference. I actually prefer the 986.
mechanically the 987 is an update to the 986. Architecturally identical. Not so the 981 (2012+)
The 2006 car will have less IMS issues, not to bring up a sore point.
Features? Condition? Condition is not the same as paint condition....which one do you rally believe was treated better.
I expect that there are 100s of little improvements in teh 987.

Yep...I'm leaning to the 2006. It's just so damn sexy looking and I have zero plans to track the car so yeah, maybe an S is not in my future. On a side note, I'm going to see the car tomorrow and noticed in the photos that the Boxster badging on the trunk is gone. Wouldn't that indicate the car's been repainted? Or are there some crazy Boxster owners who 'chose' to remove all badging?
