Default Mystery Connector Engine Bay

We were reinstalling a 2003 Boxster S engine and this mystery connector appeared. No one had tagged it, so be are mystified to what it connects. We tried testing it for ground and still no clues.

Description: a spade connector about 40mm long with a 2 mm dia hole and a v-shaped cut into the end. Wire is black and fairly thick, part of engine harness, emerges in top front of engine (firewall) over alternator and a/c condensor. I'll try to post a photo - please help identify if you can - unable to find it in diagrams.

I'm attaching an enlargement of it in place: top front of engine.
Thanks in advance,

I believe that it may go to the small lug on the starter. You could use a test light to see if it is hot with the key in the 'on' position. The other possibility is that it goes to the alternator but if that were the case I believe that it would be hot all the time and you would have noticed that when you grounded it.

Brian:

Thanks for your post. In the meanwhile, the EE guy on our team had determined, as you opined, that the tab went to the starter solenoid.

Good sleuthing!
