Default Help with Identifying Sensor

Hi All,

Ok this might be a simple question, but i don't know what this sensor is for, please see the attached picture. I have a right hand drive Boxster 2000 S, the picture shows a sensor which is on the top of the engine at t he front. the rubber part has seperated and the spring which was in there is now missing in action.

Any help identifying the part would be greatly appreciated so i can then order the new part.

cheers

Clayton

Still hard to get the full context of where it is, but I think it is the oil level/temp sensor. IIRC this is the only sensor on top of the engine. The knock sensors are to either side about in the middle, the coolant temp and oil pressure sensors are down much lower.

When you turn on the key can you check the oil level? Does this display work?

yeah its the oil sensor, ite behind the drivers seat in a right hand drive car. Or as mentioned the passenger side in a USA car. Oil level works so it was only when i pull off the top engine cover i noticed it when i was swapping out the air filter. I will order the replacement sensor asap.

thanks
