Default Hammered at the dealer!

We were replacing the CV Boots on a new clients 986 Boxster. As we got the passengers side axle out, we were having a little trouble finding the holes in the c-clip. We wiped away more of the grease and found this gem job to the shaft.

NOTE: Miles: 160k + Original owner purchased new at a Southern California dealership and always serviced at this same dealer for the life of the car until the customer brought it to us. We figured that who ever the tech was... had put the cv-joint on wrong and started running into trouble and figured he had gone past the point of no return and went for broke.

Needless to say, having to now replace the drive axle is not making the customer happy.
