New to me 2004 Boxster... some pics in the country

Yesterday we picked up a lovely 2004 S "550 Anniversary" car. We bought it from Pfaff Motors (the local P-car dealer) and it came with 22 months of CPO, four brand-spanking new Michelin Pilot Sports, new brake rotors, pads and hardware and a bunch of pre-delivery service that included a brake system flush.

The car is in beautiful shape and I plan to over-maintain it with regular IMS and water pump changes amongst other things.

My little guy and I took it for a drive in the country this evening and it was beautiful. the car is wonderful to drive and is very tight.

Pfaff was awesome, in particular the salesman we dealt with, John Hulley, was top notch. The tires were a real surprise as when I looked at the car last week, the old tires were still on. They were four years old and had 4 mm of tread depth, so they were OK and I was fine to buy the car with those tires (and was already planning to be buying new ones next year). When I realized the dealership had chose to replace them on their own accord, I was very impressed.

Here are some pics from our drive:

Great pictures! The color combination and special wheels on the Anniversary car really elevate the styling on that model. Having just driven one last week I know how much fun you are having and am envious of your purchase. Enjoy it!

Congratulations, that's a great looking Box, I don't blame you for "spoiling" it well worth the effort.
Love your work.

Very nice, love those wheels.

Great looking car. Enjoy!

Nice score. You're going to love the Boxster!

I can't believe the dealer put 4 new Michelins on the car just to be nice. They must really like you. Also surprising is 22 months CPO remaining on a 8 year old car. This car is lucky to have you as it's new owner!

Did you have a chance to ask Jake R. about the '04 SE cars?

Thanks everyone!

I did call Flat-6, but Jake was off teaching a class so I spoke to someone else, who was very helpful too. Amongst other things he mentioned a new product system that will soon launch that will be even better than the IMS retrofit. He could not share the details yet, but said it will be lauched in Excellence magazine in a few months.

I asked him about the likelihood of IMS problems with the SE cars and he said there was no real difference. Of course, Jake himself might possibly disagree, but that is the answer I got.

As it is, I'm just going to play it cautious.

The CPO is a nice back-up too. I am not sure how it is in the U.S., but in Canada the dealers can offer CPO up to ten years after the in-service date. This car came into service at the end of May 2004, and the CPO will run out at the end of May 2014.

It is a one-owner car. The PO's other P-car is a GT3...

Congratulations! That is pretty much what I am looking for! My six year old wants a Boxster really bad! He loves my 964 as well...but he really loves the Boxster! Now that I think of it...so does my wife! I guess I need three! Anyway,...nice one 500! So, let me guess...it's off to cottage country!? I will be driving a '09 and a ''04 tomorrow...will be interesting to compare the two side by side! Enjoy! Cheers!

As a fellow 04SE owner (only in Cocoa, of course!) welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine for 8 years now. I did tire of the trapezoidal exhaust tips (never liked them) and replaced the exhaust just this spring. Also, while I loved the wheels from the beginning, of late I've wanted something a little more aggressive, so changed out the wheels just last month. Otherwise, car's pretty stock, with 41,000 miles on it and nothing but routine maintenance, for the most part. Oh, and tires. LOTS of tires.

Hey, thanks for posting those pictures! I agree with you that the trapezoidal exhaust tip is probably the one unique styling feature of the SE cars that is not my cup of tea! Two puposeful round tips look the best!

The new wheels are nice too!

The cocoa interior is one of the nicest of the SE features, both on its own and for the way it works with the GT silver. On Wednesday evening I applied Leatherique to the interior leather and detailed everything (the car was clean, but I just did the things like cleaning the air vent slats etc.). I must say that the interior is really nicely done and very well put together. The first Boxsters may have been a bit plastic-y on the inside, but by this point, it had been refined very well.

Oh, yours is Cocoa also? I could have sworn from the photos it was the Dark Natural Gray or whatever they called the optional black interior on the SE.

But then when I look at my own photos above it's hard to tell mine is cocoa, also! So here ya go...

Yes! It is Cocoa... I see what you mean though... It was late in the day when I took the photos and the brown does not really show well in the pics.

Nice pedals!

I do so love that interior color! Gorgeous car all the way around!

I love my 550 SE too which I bought new in 2004. It's hard to beat the look of that cocoa leather!

Enjoy your new baby!

Beautiful pictures and a stunning, well-bought car. Wish I could swing a 550 Anniversary, they were always my favourite 986.
