Default Replaced '02 Top: New Top w/Glass Window

The plastic window on my '02 Boxster developed a crack. Had the top replaced with a GAHH Haartz A-5 fabric top with glass window. Went from black top to Metropolo Blue. Top looks great, blue is a nice change from the black and vision out the rear glass window is fantastic. Glass window is same size horizontally but is slightly narower in height. But the loss is at the bottom of the window therefore having Zero effect on visibility. The top comes with the electrical connections for the defroster so it was basically plug and play. The thing I was pleasantly surprised about was the tops quality. It is better then the the OE top. It is a heavier material and between the heavier fabric and the glass window it's quieter in the car. I know about the restricted access to the engine bay with these new glass window tops, a friend who is a Master Porsche Tech said yes they are a PITA but they are not the end of the world. He felt the benefits gained by the glass window outweighs any negatives. So far I definitely agree.

I am too tech challenged to get pics on here. My kids got me an iPhone for Father's Day last year. If someone can tell me in plain English how to post a few pics I'd be glad to do it.

The only tough part is to get the picture to a small enough kb size and onto your computer. In responding to any post click 'Advanced', then below the text input box you will see a 'Manage Attachments' button. Click it and you will see each file type and the max allowable file size.

You can try it now.

Then click 'Browse' and select the file.

Good luck.

Would love to see pics. My 01S just got a massive tear in the original plastic rear window and local upholstery shops don't want to touch it.

So it's either find a 03-04 top or buy one from GAHH.

My main concern is the factory glass window top for 986's had 4 cross members while the plastic top had 3. Very interested to see how they managed to make it work with 3 bows that want to fold the window in the middle.

There is a lot of information and guidance on the various tech forums. I would consider tackling the job myself over the winter, but fear the final fit wouldn't be just right.

I would look for a top specialist, they could probably do the job more efficiently, less hours and better service. Call some local dealers, most outsource that type of work and don't mind referring direct.

Regarding posting pics, I will try to help. First email the picture to yourself and save it in an easy to locate file and label it "new top." Then come to this site and use "go advanced". Then go to manage attachments and "browse" to locate where you placed "new top." Then "upload" and you can add comments if you wish then post it. As noted above, the size of the picture might be too large and then you need to have your kids show you how to downsize.

There is a free app 'IRFANVIEW' that is great to change picture sizes. Just open the pic, click on image resize, change pixel to 400 and resave. Preferably under a different name.

Not being ale to put up pictures drove me nuts my first few years on this site.

OK guys.
I am too inept & too impatient to follow even these simple instructions. But, if you PM me your e-mail address I'll e-mail you pics. I can handle that. Thanks for trying to help the Tech Challenged.
