Default Will 987 S wheels fit a 986?

Would anyone be able to help answer whether 987 S 18" wheels would fit on a Boxster S 986 (2001 model) sitting at factory height.

Factory 987 S wheels are:

Fronts - 18 x 8 ET 57 offset
235/40/ZR 18

Rears - 18 x 9 ET 43 offset
265/40 ZR 18

2001 Boxster S is currently running the following factory setup:

Fronts - 18 x 7.5 ET 50
225/40/18

Rears - 18 x 9 ET 52
265/35/18

I believe it shouldn't be an issue, however someone told me the tire sizes are not recommended.

Thanks!

I always check with the TireRack before I do anything.

I have a set of 18" 987 Cayman S wheels with 245 front / 255 rear Hoosiers mounted, and everything fits fine.

I would guess Porsche recommended tire sizes are all about making sure you have plenty of understeer to keep you out of trouble.

I suspect the tires/wheels will fit fine but be aware that it's possible that the differences in rolling diameter differential between front and rear MAY affect your ABS. It did on my GT3 when I tried 19s with a different tire combination (same widths but the fronts were 35 series instead the previous 40s) If you can, try to find someone who has run the precise sizes you are planning to use and make sure they had no problem with the Antilock kicking in prematurely.

I'm running OZ Alleggerita HLTs with those sizes & offsets on my '04 986S with no issues. I'm running Kumho V710s on them- 245/35R18 front and 285/30R18 rear, without any rubbing or spacers.

These guys are great to deal with - I bought my Cayman wheels from them, and they were very honest to deal with, but a bit conservative on fitment advice.

They said that I would not be able to run any front spacers with the Cayman wheels, but I knew better from very detailed measurements I had taken, and yes I can run 7 mm spacers with no issues.

So in my experience, yes they will give you good advice, but expect it to be a little on the conservative side.
