It was originally a crate motor from Porsche. Installed in the car for ~1 year so very low mileage (~10k miles).

What does it take to swap one of these into a base model 2001 boxster?

Read this: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...ngine_Swap.htm

I would also PM Todd Holyoak, who has done a lot of these engine swaps. He can probably give you some valuable insights. His handle is Tholyoak on 986orum and Renntech also I think.

Awesome information. I just bought a 2001 Boxster with possibly a bad motor. It turns over with no compression. I'll spend a few days trying to get it working but hopefully its toast!!!!

986,

Great opportunity. How much are these motors new (please clarify with/without core charge)?

I have a '97 that I have considered upgrading. I know I'd need to do more than the motor though...

Great Deal I can't believe no one has bought it yet. Someone posted pics of a 550 Spyder replicar with a 2.5 last week. Can you imagine a 3.2??? Atom territory, or a 914 implant would be phenomenal.
