Default New 19" Wheels on my 986S - 11" wide rears!

Hey guys - just installed my new wheels on my Boxster S and snapped some pics to share. I think the black wheels look great on the Guards Red, especially with the red calipers showing through and 4" stainless lip on the rear...

They are Veloce XS 19" in Granite Black.

19x8.5 Front, 235/35/19
19x11 Rear, 295/30/19 tires

The rears are just insanely wide...

I think the car looks great and I'm very happy with the way the wheels and tires have toughened up the stance and the overall look of the car.

See for yourself...!

The rears look like they're sticking out too much...

It's a 987/997 wheel/tire package I presume, since the tires are a bit tall for the 986. You will have taller gears and an incorrect speedometer, so be careful.

The original wheels were 18's with overall height measurement of 25". The new Veloce's are 25" front and 25 5/8" rear overall height. Minimal.

I don't know about you guys but my speedometer is off a little even with the stock tires. Reads faster than I am really going. So a little bit taller tire would actually make it more accurate. That's some serious rubber...how's it handle and run?

I second that budman - every Porsche I have ever owned (4 of them now) the speedometer reads faster than I was actually going. I suspected it on several of my cars and finally verified it with GPS. I'm actually only doing about 57-58 mph when it says I'm doing 60.

I'm not so worried about the speed discrepancy as the miles on the odometer piling up faster than I'm actually putting them on! I want to fully enjoy every last mile that clocks up on these precious babies, so some larger wheels to correct for the speedo discrepancy is OK in my book! - LOL!

My bimmer is much worse. 130 reads as 140. Verified with both garmin gps and escort 9500i. BMW claims its for safety reasons. I figure they do it so warranties run out sooner.

+1 The rears are definately sticking out past the fender. What offsets are you using?

IMHO, the only thing saving you from massive rubbing is the high ride height.

That must be a heavier set up, is it not?

Nice Wheels - I guess you dont track your car otherwise you would be taking chuncks out of your tire like I did when I put 11" Carrera 4cs wheels on mine I then had to widen the fenders The first photo are the Carrera wheels and street tires the other two with the mod are my track wheels and tires

I am a 'weekend' driver, not doing any track driving. I wanted to update the appearance of the car more than looking for performance / handling changes. Ride height is stock. The weight of this tire /wheel combination is about 4 lb more per wheel than the original wheels. Overall ride is better but I attribute that to the new tires. Had worn out Toyo's previously. No trouble with tire rub etc...just doing some spirited driving in the mountains of SC & NC.

I mounted 295 30 19 in the rear. I noticed you used silver center caps--looks good.

the wheels aren't my taste, but i do like the offset of the rears. it just needs lowered a tad and it would have a mean looking stance.
