Default New 2002 Boxster S owner

HI,
I just bought a 2002 Boxster S ,
I am gutting it for the track , and would like some advice.

Does anyone here run it as just a track car if so what upgrades are common .
Also as with all Porsche's there are a few MUST do items for track duty.
Please let me know what they are .
Also what is done for down force in the rear , or is it need ?

Thanks for help

Also anyone need some parts? Complete black interior?

I have an 02 S also. I'm setting it up for dual duty. So far I've done the Brey Krause rollbar extender, a B&M short shifter, GT3 seats, 6 pt harness. I've also bought some 993 Cup wheels, and have invested in a Hans device. I want to do some suspension mods. The factory brakes are amazing, so I don't think I need to do anything other than maybe put pagid pads.

I've owned six 911 variant P-cars over the past 25 yrs, and this Boxster S is probably tied with the 996 GT3 as the most fun of any of them. Love speed yellow-my favorite color for a Porsche. Have fun!

The Boxster Spec Racing rules web page will give you a few hints of what can (should) be done for track use: http://www.boxsterspecracing.org/bsrrules.html

Deep sump kit for oil starvation is one thing worth thinking about. Extra oil cooling. Overheating steering racks seem to be a source of heartache for some, but none that I know or have experienced.

I think the Boxster Spec racing build guidelines are a pretty good start even if you have no plans on going into that series. Lotsa smart folks setting the rules there from experience.

Thanks guys, you have for the most part confirmed what I was thinking

Good news on the factory brakes , These are the sames as the 996 , right.

Yes it did have a engine fire , that is why I bought it to build to a track car.

Is there any market for the interior and the top? and front bumper ?

You might want to look into replacing the underdrive pulley as a way to reduce the speed of the PS pump.

Can I get a hold of the map pocket covers, especially the driver side? Not sure if you are going with lightweight/RS style door panels, but if you do, I'll take those.

Thanks!

Derek - I just converted an '01 Boxster S into a full-blown track car. It's ready for F Class racing. I've had it for about 2 weeks and have tracked it a Watkins Glen, Monticello, and Lime Rock. It's a total blast. Rick Deman (DeMan Motorsports, Blauvelt, NY) did all the work. You may want to contact him. He's done a lot of work on these Boxsters and races them regularly. Feel free to mention my name.

Here's a few snap shots of a track car in our region of the PCA.

He did not go the hardtop/Boxster Spec route...it was cmpleted before any of those were yet on track

Derek - Here are some shots from the Glen about 1 1/2 weeks ago. If you following racing, you'll probably know the guy who was instructing me. Feel free to PM me and I can go over the specs with you.
