Differences Between 05 Boxster and Boxster S?
I know the S has more hp but how does it have more hp? Also my mechanic said the tranny was different too. What other differences are there between boxster and boxster s?
Also what exactly does the "sport" button do to your driving experience? I think it is throttle reponse does it do anything else?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it has more HP. 240 (2.7L) vs. 280 (3.2L). How? Bigger engine (bore).
Base has a 5-speed (can get a 6-speed as option)
S has a 6 speed.
Brakes are different too.
These are the main differences.
Sport works with few other options. Mainly Sport Chrono and PASM. You can have one or the other or both. Also can be linked to PSE, if equiped through Techniques.

Thanks. Is the boxster tranny (5 speed) a VW tranny and the S or 6 speed a porche made tranny.
I still don't understand what the sport button does when you push it. Could you elaborate a little more?

I'm not sure about the tranny. At one point, I was told the 987 tranny was from Japan, but can not confirm.
Here is how the "Sport" button works (it is only available as options):
1) If you have the Sport Chrono option, when in sport mode, the throttle response is re-mapped (approx. 25% faster throttle response) a harder redline with the rev-limiter, and the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system allows for more driver input before PSM with throttle you down and engage ABS to get you straight.
2) If you have/install Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) it turns the exhaust in sport (loud) mode
3) if you have the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) option. The sport button may play into this too. But not sure. As I don't know or have PASM. This would bascially change ride firmness. Sorry, that's the best I can do.

For the 986 the 5 speed was an Audi unit and the 6 speed was a Getrag designed unit. Aisin is the japanese manufacturer of transmissions.
Brakes are bigger on the S.
Most "S"s came with 18" wheels, the nonS came with 17's
