Default Ignition switch

Is there a problem with the inginion switches (02 Boxster) it seems that it needs to be "jiggled" to get the a/c working...and I'm having a problem actually inserting the key....
This is an 02 S 28,000 mile car I'm looking at ,,,, price may be right.

I appears that part of the problem seems to be internal in the switch, the need to back the switch counter clockwise to get the a/c to work, what about the problem of actually getting the key into the slot....needs to be "finessed" to get it in, and, is this causing athe dead battery problem if the car is not used for a few days...it has a new battery and a new alternator, 2002 S with 28,000 miles.
I am thinking about buying this car, it belongs to a friend of a friend, $18,500....seem like a good deal?
Its Black/Tan (yellow) and although it has had a reportable accident (minor side swipe) I spoke with the body shop owner who I know personally, he assured me that the damage although reported was very minor....

Replacing the whole lock assembly, which includes the new updated electrcal switch is the answer.
You will keep the original key lock cylinder and keys.

It's common and a relatively easy fix. I need to replace mine this Spring when I take it out of storage. It shouldn't keep you from buying an otherwise solid car.

Thanks for all the info, however...part of the problem is actually GETTING THE ACTUAL KEY INTO THE KEY SLOT, does that mean replacing the entire assembly, and can it be keyed alike....so that I keep the original keys???
hOPEFULLY THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM OF RUNNING THE BATTERY DOWN, if the car is not used every day.

I would agree on the price of the car being very good. Leaves a little extra for fixes.
