Painted Crests
I have a 2000 S with painted crests on 18" turbo twists. It's the one "accessory" that I don't seem to have listed on the options under the hood (the painted crests, not the wheels, which are listed). Yesterday, I saw a 996 with chrome turbo twists and painted crests. However the crests are different. I was wondering if or which ones would be factory - or maybe there is a 996/986 difference or a chrome/satin difference.
Mine are a small raised emblem that have a plastic coating, and a grooved circle going around the badge. His did not have the grooved circle, were a bigger badge, and seemed to not have the plastic coating over them.
As an aside, my plastic coating got white/scratched. I just used Novus plastic polish and cleaner on them and they look great.

Would need to see a picture.
But here is the crested cap style that started with the 987. If I remember correctly that cap was first used years earlier on certain Cayenne wheels, then the 987/997.

Hmm. I'll take a picture and download it when my daughter lets me borrow my camera back.
Meanwhile, I think his might be more like yours. Mine has a badge about 15% smaller, and a circle on the face of the cap just outside of the badge.

Yours with the smaller crest and circle look like this. It is from the 993. The plastic covered crest like to fly off (or get pulled off by kids) and the plastic gets cloudy or flakes off with age.

Yeah, my 01S has the crests like Jay and Tool Pants posted.
2 are missing the crests completely. One looks mint. One the crest is insanely faded.
I think they look nice but they don't seem to hold up well. Trying to determine how I want to replace them.

Thanks. On the faded ones, as I mentioned, I just used Novus plastic polish and they are good as new. Certainly doesn't do much for the fly off risk!
And, since I already have them, I'm of course going to take the position that the "classic" older style is better.

Just an FYI, I've been looking at my era Porsches these days (what else is new?). Just about every 996 I've seen with raised crests seems to have the same ones I have.
