3.4L engine: '07 Boxster S vs '99-'01 996
I notice the '07 S has a 3.4L engine with performance data similar to the 996 engines of '99-'01. Are they the same or similar engines?
I know the 996 engine had some problems, including RMS, and was replaced in '02 with the 3.6L. It was a factor to me in deciding on my '03 Boxster vs a '01 996 C4 I was also looking at. The latter had the RMS seal replaced at just 27K miles.

They are similar, but not the same. The engines are from the same family, but they are not identical. The engine is shared with the Cayman S, and the articles regarding the Cayman S's engine are easier to find.
