Boxster engine in an early 911?
Lately I've become interested in doing a 3.6L conversion to my Boxster S, which would of course result in the original 3.2L engine needing a new home.
Question: is it possible / practical to implant a 3.2L 986S engine into an early 911 (say, 1973)chassis?
Have you ever heard of anyone putting a Boxster engine into a 911?

While a 1973 911 with 250 hp would be a very fun car, I think that the installation would prove very frustrating (read $$$). Water cooled vs. air cooled for starters.

Why not? If people out there can stuff an american V-8 and all the necessary plumbing into a 911, why not a Boxster motor? The question is why?
I think it would be cool to install an air cooled motor into a Boxster.

Since the 986/996 engine will not bolt up to an early 911 gearbox you would also have to change the gearbox to a 996 gearbox. If you used a 986 Boxster gearbox the ring gear would be on the wrong side and you would have 5 or 6 speeds in reverse. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
