MDanger - Glad I made you mad. Now plase leave this board if you can't stop with your constant diarrhea of the mouth and take your beloved and most ugly 4 cylinder Audi with a turbo along please.

Just remember to most everyone your car is mistaken for an rx7 or some other late 80's blobmobile sportscar. Don't you LOVE it.

I dont care how much HP you have if it is a 951 it looks like SHEEEET.

Have a nice day and get your A$$ back to the 951/Audi/VW interior board suka.

Wow .. Now I know what it feels like to be a real 951/928 know it all bash everything smartAZZ.

Turby

From you signature I sse that that you have a H2. One of the WORST performing vehicles in the planet (speed limited to 95mph) Have fun driving that slab sided monster.

You don't list your precious 450 hp 951. why is that?

My 3.4 Boxster was built on a 99 Boxster. I have under 55k in the whole car with the 3.4 and it is one INCREDIBLE daily driver with solid reliability. Any 951 with 450 is only a step away from grenading itself.

My cousin is gay, he said he hates Boxsters because they are too masculine.

Go figure.

And one last thing, why are you even bothering to post on a Boxster forum if you hate it so much? In my opinion, a Porsche is a Porsche and they're all excellent automobiles. We don't drive Hondas, so what's with the beef?

Ken, I started off by posting my opinion, not bashing the boxter. Now if you want to talk $hit, I can do that too. 3.4, and why the hell would you bring up the H2? Its not a sports car!!! Its the exact opposite you idiot. I live where there is 4 real seasons, and have it for the winter. I bet you guys drive your cars in the snow. Oh, and just so you guys know.......you are the laughing stock of all other porsche owners.

I once heard a joke:

"Know what the difference between a porcupine and a Porsche is?

Porcupines got ****** on the outside."

I don't agree with this statement, but I'm beginning to see where the stereotype comes from. Just cut the crap, move out and keep your insecureties to yourself. Don't bash ANY Porsche and let the REAL enthusuasts be.

Shouldn't the Admin. cut this thread by now? It's getting tiring and adding to that horrific stereotype that gives true Porsche drivers and enthusiasts a bad rap.

What is a Porsche Enthuseust? (warning-long and opinionated!)

This is a question that requires a certain degree of careful handling in delivering a summary answer. Many stereotypes exist in many cultures around the world for equally as many reasons. Stereotypes are often based loosely in fact but are seldom blanket absolutes. These generalizations are formed often by those outside of said sterotypical groups and are arguably justified when then attached stereotype appears in the characture given.

Porsche owners are a group like any other. They are a group comprised of human beings and therefore subject to the shortcommings of the species. Not all Porsche Owners are enthuseusts but all are fond of the marque for thier own personal and usually asthetic reasons. Some become owners because it is convienent. Thier well to do crowd of friends percieve success in a certain manner and one of the symbols of this success is ownership of a Porsche car. Many of this segment are not in fact enthuseusts and would be equally happy with thier purchased automible if the requisite symbol was a Ferrari or a Aston Martin or more commonly a BMW. It must be said though, that the minority of this particular group of owners become, or already were enthuseusts to begin with. This may have been the motivating factor for the success in the first place thereby becoming doubly successful.

Another group of the many that exist are those who fell in love with the marque as they grew up. They observed the sleek shape of whatever model caught their eye as a yongster and vowed silently to themselves to someday own one of those. Thhis particular characteristic is most likely the most common thread to all the types of enthusiests and current, future and past owners. It would be safe to gather that almost all enthuseusts fall into this trait, but not all owners.

A great many types of Porsche owners exist, but those who feel a indescribable passion about their automobile and find the the thought of life without it quite difficult. The enthuseust is a strange human indeed. This person is predominantly male, but many females also enjoy the benefits of this car induced bliss.

A Porsche enthuseust will find it next to impossible to contain themselves as they turn the key in the ignition of thier very first Porsche. The drive home is almost dreamlike and simontaneously akin to feeling as though being on the verge of exploding with giddiness. You can find an enthuseust justifying a $50.00 bottle of car wash formula but neglecting that frayed shoelace that has been hanging on for dear life the last six months. This is not always due to tight financial constraints, but rather because priority perceptions have been changed. Those miraculous shiny keys do that. A enthuseust will find pleasure in the simple act of collecting the keys to thier car and will attain a near nirvana like state before even stepping into the car. The mere thought that holding the keys while approaching thier ride makes everything right with the world for that person.

You can usually spot an enthuseust at a gathering of Porsches and thier owners. While many people are present at these gatherings and a large percentage of those people are enthuseusts, many are just there because it is expected or simply out of curiosity. The enthuseusts will be the ones who never stray far from thier pride and joy. They are there with the comforting knowledge that a buffing rag is within quick reach or perhaps hanging from a pocket.

A Porsche enthuseust will run across a crowded parking lot to catch an unmanned shopping cart if it appears to be on a collision course with thier baby. No thought of how this might look to others crosses thier mind until after the ordeal is over and they are satisfied that a ding has been averted. Only then will the nonchalance return as though anyone else would have done the same.

Oblivious to the fact that many others are ok with leaving thier Mazdas or Fords or Toyotas parked curbside at home, a Porsche enthuseust will place thier sweetheart in the garage. if you peeked in many of those garages, you might even find a car cover on it as well.

A Porsche enthuseust will feel slightly guilty about eating or smoking while driving thier favorite model down the road, but will not think twice about letting the "other" car in the household go for weeks or months without a car wash.

Often you will be able to tell the difference between the enthuseust and the non-enthuseust owner on the highway as well. You can spot them
simply by seeing that one P-car will flash thier lights at another P-car as they meet going in opposite directions. This is known as "flashing". The other P-car then will either "flash" back or wonder what the hell that idiot was doing flashing. Is there a cop ahead? An accident? Are my high beams on? These thoughs will cross the mind of those who simply don't know or "get it".

This activity is believed to have been originated back in the 1960's or 1970's when there were a lot less Porsches on the road and drivers of the marque, in an attempt to signify that they recognized the good taste of another owner, would flash thier high beams at another operating a Porsche. This tradition has slowly died out.
As more and more people sought out the status of having a Porsche in the 1980's and 1990's, the practice of "the flash" as well as the percentage of those who apprecaited what they had dwindled.

Sadly the ranks of Porsche owners seems to be populated by those in model specific devisivness and comparision pissing matches. The enthusuests are still out there, but are more often than not becoming increasingly silent. Where once a comraderie of enthuseuasim existed, now lies a state of SUV owners looking for the next luxury status symbol and those remaining few who love the maker of thier dream cars fight with one another over which model is best and how effeminate or inadequate another model is compared to thiers. To avoid a lenghty(er) dissertation, I will for the most part avoid the "the _____(fill in the blank with anything not 911)____ not really a porsche because__(whatever delusional diatribe follows)____"

I bid you, the reader and hopefully porsche enthuseust, fair weather and good roads.

Turby - You are the laughing stock of my A$$ for laying out 55k on a GM Tahoe based Hummer wanna be.

Guess you must be really insecure to need to drive a hummer cuz you probably never get or had one in your life you loser.

Now please please just leave us boxster guys alone and go find a board where you can talk about your 55k pile of GM sheet.

Ken, I got to agree with SilverBullet here on the car-bashing stuff... anyways,

Sorry for the OT, but:

Ken, I finally saw your website. Your car is pretty badass, but is that the hardtop from Porsche? I have a buddy who got one from the dealership for his silver Boxster and claims he has some leakage issues. It also appears as if it doesn't fit right because of those black gaps filled with rubber where it meets with the rear deck. Lastly, it is VERY heavy, which just kind of cancels out his mild mods. Any comments or similar problems? If so, how did you address them?

First off, I was saying that Turby was just here bashing the Boxster and I disagreed with that. Do you have a problem with me stating that Porsche owners should be bashing other Porsche owners? I don't care for "Trolls" that come in here and post worthless messages like "My car is better than your car..." etc.

Hardtop issues:
1) That is a Porsche factory hardtop.
2) In the early photos of the top I didn't have the spin-locks installed yet so I just set the top on the car, hence the gap. Look for some later photos where I have the spinlocks installed, no gap in those
3) No leaking or squeeking issues at all, in fact the car is quieter inside, but with more of a bass tone to the stereo and to the engine/exhaust notes.
4) The top is actually pretty light, 48.5lbs is what it tipped the scales at. I know other drivers that weigh more than 48.5 lbs more than me! I don't use the top at the track, just during the winter months when I have to drive the car during the winter which really isn't too often. Those summer pictures were when I first got the top and had just 'set' it on the car without fastening it down. Oh and in terms of performance numbers, 50lbs of sprung weight is equivalent to approximately 5hp. I've gained 30+ HP at the rear wheels, so even if I do mount the hardtop, I've still come out ahead. In that train of thought, though, I wouldn't mind having a Boxster RS, something on a diet to see what that would do!

I'll have to shoot some newer pictures with the hardtop on since I put it on last week for the winter.

Thanks for calling my car a "badass", but I don't know that I'd go that far. I'd need a twin turbo or supercharger setup to start approaching what I consider "badass" territory. It will, however, run circles around most cars at the track.

The enthusiast piece was well put. But flashing in my area is still a large practice among Porsche drivers.

Hey Ken, thanks for the info.

Hmm. A Boxster in a coupe right from the factory? I'd like to see the ruckuss that would cause!!!!!

3.4 could you possibly post something any dumber?
You're the only boxster owner on this forum that is not going to face the opinions of others like an enthusiast. Ken, is making this a very mature conversation. But you, you don't stop with these stupid comments that keep this thread going. 3.4, the only reason I'm responding is because you keep bashing people. IMO you are not a real enthusiast, you are a fool who knows nothing about communicating, and having a decent conversation. This conversation can go in another direction but you keep it going in this direction. I think YOU should get off this forum, you start nothing but trouble.

Silver,

I did not start this. I am so sick of all the thoughtless bashing going on in this thread that I have decided to take it to the extreme and blindly bash and comment at will.

As for the statement that this thread could go in a more positive direction. With a topic like it has now there is little chance of that happening. Because of the negative topic header most everyone comes in here to dump on, berate or otherwise comment on how the Boxster is inadequate. Having DRIVEN 2.5, 2.7,3.2 and now 3.4 Boxsters I can say that the car stands on its own and deserves none of the trite comments often paid to it here.

As for conversation I am a great fan of it when people are considerate of others and take the time to carefully read something. Neither Turby or many others have done that here. Instead they antoganize and start downward spirals with their comments made without experience or firsthand knowledge of the subject matter.

My comments on this board are not my typical nature but in light of the complete lack of common courtesy by others here it has driven me to become like them and post ignorant and unbased comments en masse. I will continue until the admins kill this thread (please nuke us all please, please) or until the instigators leave us to discuss worthwhile topics in non-abrasive ways.

As for my status as an enthusiast I am sorry that we did not meet under better conditions so you could see that my love for the company and its cars go back two generations in my family and that my father and his father and I all feel owning, restoring, caring for and most importantly driving these cars is among lives best pleasures.

Thumbs down

I agree with 3.4 -- Silver, turdby, et al, please take your bashing elsewhere. While this is the Boxster forum, it is also a Porsche forum, not a location to bait and bash other Porsche owners.

I own both a Boxster and a 911 and have driven all manner of 944s on the track. All are worthy cars.
