Post 7.5" wide OE front twist wheels?

Anyone know if there is a 7.5 to 8" wide factory front wheel (ideally '97-'99 17" twist style) for Boxsters? Alternately, any other OE 17" wheels - 7.5~8 F & 8.5~9 R (possibly from the 993??) that fit the 986? Looking to run a 225/45r17 tire up front and feel the OE 7" fronts are a bit narrow for this...

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the answer to your question, but 225/45-17 tires fit fine on a 7" wheel.

I run 245/45R17 Kuhmo Victoracers on 17 X 7 Cup rims for track events with no problems. Some aftermarket rims like the Technology 17" sold by Wheel Enhancement are 7.5" wide, but I do not believe that Porsche offered any 17 X 7.5 rims as OE.

Try Mille Miglia Cup 3 wheels; they come in 7.5x17.

I use their Cup 1 wheels for the track and they are very good quality, appear identical to OE wheels, and OE center caps fit these wheels.

here's what I did. Get yourself a pair of 996 17" rear wheels, use those on the rear (with a pair of 5mm spacers) and use your existing rear wheels in the front. That gives you 8.5" wheels up front and 9" in the rear and you can go with 245 and 275.

I know people have put 275's on the 8.5" wheels but I don't think the tire manufacturers recommend that.

The next question--how do you get a mismatched set of wheels--I got my 996 rears from Cory Jump at planet 9 eleven. His website is http://www.planet9eleven.com and you can get his contact info. there.

Thanks Paul, just the info I was hoping for. I didn't think the 8.5's would fit on the front from just looking at it.. guess its time to try.

Anyone have a pair of early 996 (17x9) rears (Boxster twist style) for sale? Email me off board.

Thank you!

Yes they do. Our 98 Boxster has the Turbo Twist 17s on it. We bought the car used. I thought they would be 7 1/2 and 9 wide, but when we were balancing them the fronts measured 8" with the measuring device the mechanic had. I don't know where they came from, but you might try Ernie's Alloys in Miami. He is not cheap, but he seems fairly honest. I bought some Fuchs 16's from him and one was not right, and he replaced it at his expense, with no argument.

Good luck

Bill
