Boxster security ??
Now i am about to order my Boxster S, my insurance broker tells me about the carjacking problem of this type of cars.
Does anyone know a satisfying (technical) solution ? Preferably one that is also available in Europe.

Carjacking usually implies that the thief takes the car from you while you're in it. In the States at least. If that's the case then no alarm will help as you are the weak link in the security.
If your broker just meant that Boxsters are simply being stolen off the street then you'll just have to invest in the best alarm/anti theft system you can find. If a car thief is a real pro and wants your car, then he will get it. You just want to make your car a pain in the *** so that he'll move on to someone elses unsecured Boxster.
I was at a car show a year or two back however where some specialty shop had installed a wired drivers seat in an MB SL500. You had a certain amount of time to disarm it before recieving the shock of your life. Don't know what kind of alarm disarming stress that put on the owner though.

Well, he really referred to pulling one out of the car at a red light etc..
So don't there exist some immobilising systems that halt the car after -say- one mile. Or any other system ?
How about the satellite tracking system Porsche is offering right know ? Any opinions on that ?

You are absolutely right Doc, I forgot all about the systems that will now shut the car down after a mile or so, so that you're at least out of harms way when it goes dead.
No doubt Porsche's satellite tracking system is good but here's something to think about. In the States we have this thing called Lo Jack (and a few others)which many police units actually have in their cars. Problem is, in certain areas, there are so many thefts the police literally do not have time to chase down all these Lo Jack cars and do their other duty as cops to the public. I don't know or even think that will be the case in Belgium but you definately want to find out exactly who is responsible for taking action on a satellite based security system.
Also, think about putting a tint on your windows. Car jackers don't really like approaching cars they cannot see into clearly. Doesn't half too dark, just a shade that really obscures you the occupant. Any legality problems with tinting in Belgium?

thanks for your advice,
and yep, you're right again, tinting the windshield or front side windows is considered illegal. And as a Boxster hasn't got any rear side windows ....

There used to be a lot of carjacking in the US. Now there is not because the punishment is so high for convicted car-jackers. Also, they are prosecuted in federal court and go to federal prison. This means a lot in the US since the federal prisons have enough money to keep the prisoners for their full sentance.

Show me your tricks : pulling your Browning while sitting in your car and somebody else is pointing another gun at your head...
Who will be the faster ???
If you can beat these violent carjackers (who don't hesitate to shoot in Belgium)
YOU can be the designated driver in my new Porsche

My response was meant tongue-in cheek but since you ask, you are correct- one should never draw a gun on a drawn gun. In your scenario you should plead for mercy, turn off the motor and surrender the car. When your assailant takes your place behind the wheel NOW is the opportunity to draw your firearm and open his skull. Hope this helps!
