Because it's a reliable horizontally opposed motor.

I find a certain irony that someone is getting purist about what engine goes in a water cooled Coxster, as they call it on Top Gear. I personally find nothing disturbing about it, though if I were to do it, it would be an EZ30R 6er instead of one of the boost variants.

I think for $9000 you should pass on the car. It just is not worth it.

I think you may be commenting on the 4 year old portion of this thread. The new contemporary build that was linked is being done on a $3000 Boxster with a blown motor.

Personally, I would love to see the Subaru/Boxster build! I love P-cars & Subies too. Actually, I love almost all cars, and the crazier & more ambitious the build, the better. Of course I am trying to put together funds to build a car for 24 Hours of Lemons, so I may not be right in the head to begin with.

Porsche is good how it is, but if you're resurrecting a dead one, who cares about being a purist? The beast shall live, and that's all that matters. Cannot wait to see how this turns out. Good luck, my friend!

The exact same adapter kit and engine cradle will accommodate the EZ series motors. Why not have your cake and eat it too... a boosted EZ30

Where did you get that price? When my motor died of IMS Failure at 27K, I was quoted upwards of $18K by my Porsche dealer. Mine is a 2004 Boxster S anniv. model. In the end, it ended up being replaced under warranty.

2006 prices? That's when the post was done. When did your motor fail? Were you offered a rebuilt motor or a new one? When I had mine replaced, I was told $20k for a new one. I had to ask about the rebuilt motor, which I ended up with.

Mine was done in April or May 2009 and it was a rebuilt one from Porsche that had all the current (at the time) updates including a strengthened IMS. Maybe the price was for a new one but when it's done under warranty they give you a rebuilt.

That wouldn't surprise me. "OK, we'll fix it...but we're putting in a rebuilt motor instead of a new one then!"

Hey, they've to keep those profit margins, right?
