Default Boxster's hunting at idle when hot

Hi - I need help with a 2000 Boxster. Recently it has begun hunting at idle only when it is hot. At the track, adding race fuel cured the problem immediately. With todays fuel prices this is an expensive fix. Anybody know what might be going on? The car has 60K, is chipped, with GHL exhaust, cold intake....... If that makes a difference?

Did you by any chance use a K&N or other 'oiled' filter when you did the intake mod?

Understand that excess oil from these filters can mess with the MAF and lead to issues...

Could be oil on the MAF or it just may need to be replaced; they eventually go over time.

Two years ago we put the K&N in and the engine light went on.... $1500.00 later we had the dealer change the Maf - we were rookies I guess. Now, yes we have the K&N but they are not over oiled and the first ox sensor in line after the air intake is the one that is fouled - just wiping it with a rag and reinstalling it cures the problem.
This problem is something else. Could the lack of backpressure from the exhaust cause this? The exhaust is the newest addition, and the problems started after this.....

I don't think it's the exhaust. I have had the GHL on for about 3 yrs with no problems (EVO intake 4yrs).

Sounds like a dirty butterfly/throttle valve to me. This 2000 Boxster was doing the same thing - hunting. We cleaned it and the problem went away. (You have to open the butterfly to really see all the carbon buildup).

Forgot about that... At one time I had some ruff idling and after cleaning the throttle body, as Loren stated, it ran smoothly again.

I just had the exact same problem on my 2000. It hunted between 500RPM and 1,000RPM and sometimes even cutout. I took the throttle body off and was amazed how much carbon and dirt buildup there was. I cleaned it all up, and now it has a rock steady idle again
