Newbie here. What are the difference between 2000-2004 Boxsters
Interested in possibly bying a 986 Boxster S. What are the differences between years. I have about $30k, give or take to spend.
I am planning on tracking the car, auto x's and HPDE's. Since it's a convertible, do I need a roll bar to participate in HPDE events or are the standard roll hoops sufficient. Have a lot of track experince with other cars I've owned, but I never had a convertible track car.
What option should I look for considering I will track the car, sport package, etc.
thanks
Glenn

As for a roll bar, the real issue for most (pca) events is the "broomstick test". If you can sit, with helmet on, and have at least 2" between your helmet and a "broomstick" placed over the windsheild header and the factory roll bar, you are fine. If not, you may need to either modify the seat, add a "brey krause" rollbar extension or both. However, at least one track, VIR, requires the brey-krause piece regardless how far below the broomstick you are.
There were small HP and torque bumps over the years. HP climbed from 252 to 260(?) over the years. Also some suble style changes over the years.

I am in a similar position and I am looking for the same kind of information. I am probably looking to find a 2000 - 2003 Boxter S for about 30K.
I am not an experianced track driver but I would like to take the car on a track occasionally.

One key question in what year did the Porsche Stability Management System become available on these cars and is it standard?
