What kind of coolant?
Is there a coolant besides the Porsche coolant that is ok for the Boxster? Ours is a little low and we're going on a trip, but I don't want to go all the way across town to the dealer if I don't have to.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The only coolant that is incompatible is old VW G-11, or other heavily silicated HD coolants.
OAT coolants are literally all the same, Dexcool, Dexcool-Approved (generic), G-12
Hybrid OAT coolants, w/a shot of silicates, is a good way to go, and a must if switching to a metal implellered pump (if such things exist for Porsche). Xerex G-05 is the generic, and it's used by BMW, MB, John Deere, Chrysler, Ford too.
I'm doing mine and using Peak Global.

You may think it is just a small leak but so did the nearly 10 cars -- and nice newer cars too, not old beaters -- on the side/shoulder of highway 50 going up the mountains from the central valley of CA to Tahoe one very hot July weekend a few years ago. Bet their drivers all thought a low coolant level was just a small topping up problem...
The leak may be the coolant tank cap.
If the cap part # ends in anything less than "04" you might want to drive across town and pick up a new cap and while you're there, a jug of antifreeze. Oh and a quart of oil too if you do not have any in the car.
You can add distilled water but note this affects the temperature at which the coolant will freeze.
Sincerely,
Macster.
