Default Fading hope for a lower-priced Boxster coupe

With speculation about price of the upcoming Boxster coupe it is interesting to note the following from the article:

“But they [Porsche officials] insist that Porsche will not bring in new models or variants priced below the Boxster…”

Default Some notable Boxster changes

With no spare on the 911, applying the same to the Boxster had to follow. I heard there is no dipstick on the 911, only the electronic gauge; although this is not mentioned in the article, I would expect the same. The new one has 50/50 weight balance as opposed to 47/53 split on the outgoing model. The 911’s variable steering also comes here.

Boxsters always shared many parts with the 911. The new model shares 55 percent of its components with the 911 according to Joachim Meyer, chassis engineering manager at Porsche. The next time someone tells you a Boxster is not a real Porsche and some inferior product, shove that one in their arrogant and ignorant face.

I agree that the new Boxster is not a 911...but to the arrogant co-workers who claim how much better their 1993 911 is than the new 2005 boxster I just have to laugh.
Who cares if it's better? Just by simply making that statement it makes me think that they are somehow wishing that they had the new boxster instead of their older 911 and looking for ways to justify that they don't.... Just my $0.02.

To each his own...for me the new 2005 boxster is the car of choice. That makes me happy and I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Isn't Porsche = 911? Anything else are just supplementary no?

I appreciate your diplomacy. But for some reason I am suddenly getting this vision of a pissing contest among intelligent men dressed in tuxedos. Strange isn't it?

I think you'll find that a majority of Boxster owners are happy about that.

996s accelerate better in a straight line, but a 986 is more fun to fling around the twisties.

The smiles per buck factor is much higher in a 986.

Even on the track, a well driven Boxster will give a 996 owner fits.

... and the majority of Boxster bashers have not driven a Boxster. If they had, they would have bought one, assuming they could afford one.

...real Porsches?? ask the 356 guys about that...This whole subject is really, well, unreal.

My ideas on Porsche were formulated and nurtured in 1958 the year I turned 16, so the 911, has NEVER been my icon.

P-cars I have owned ?? '63 356 B, 73 914 2.0, '99,'02 and '04 Boxsters. The latest being am '04 S 550 SE.

Gee, guys, I didn't mean to start anything. I love my 911, but in the perfect world, I'd have both!

No Sweat Darryl,

After all a 911 is just a Boxster with the engine turned around to make room for the kids !!
(They will probably make a 4 door one soon)

Actually, my ideal set up would be a boxster for when you want the roof down and a 911 for when you need a roof.

Start anything? Nah. Thanks for posting the link. Love to read as much as possible about P-cars especially commentary from Porsche itself. One of my favorites is a quote from someone at Porsche when asked why the Boxster can't have the same engine as the 911. His answer was something like... because that would make it better now wouldn't it?

BTW, I would never want to pit 911 vs Boxster, nor 911 owners vs Boxster owners. Have too much desire and admiration for both. What sticks in my craw are the rotten apples in the barrel… ignorant Boxster bashers.
