Default 986S is still one of the best drives I have experinced

Amigo's I just got back from a wonderful drive around the hillside where I live in my Boxster S, I almost forgot how wonderful the drive on this platform, I normally drive my 996 Targa daily, but today I grabbed the keys to the 986 and off I went. I really miss the feel and exhaust note of the 986, the handling is truly amazing, my wife drives the 986S daily also. Just thought I would share my love for this car. Check out some pictures of second love.

I was thinking of getting a slightly used 2002-2003 Targa...how you would compare your 986S versus your 996 Targa?

If you had a choice between a slightly used 996 Targa, or a new 986S. What would you choose and why?

I used to have a '02 986S then went to an '04 M3 Cab. But, recently, I drove my old 986S (Friend bought it from me)....and man do I miss the way it handles. Ironically enough, although my M3 is clearly more powerful, by way of 333Bhp; the 986S actually FELT faster and more nimble.

I really do miss the handling. So....I'm asking this question because I'm thinking of going back to a P-Car and am "stumped" as to which way I should go.

Your wisdom in this matter is greatly appreciated, given your vast collection of automobiles....

BTW....my old 986S was a six speed and the M is a speed as well.

Just thought I'd note that....

Jimmy_D, Although the M3 Cab has the 333hp engine its much heavier then the coupe. 986S and the M3 cab 1/4 mile times are in the same ballpark. Handling and the feel of the 986S makes the choice easy for me.

To me, the deciding factor is the convertible aspect so I'd go for the Boxster S. I was actually deciding between an 02 Cab and a new S and got the new S.

Jimmy_D - where are you located in Norhern NJ ? I live in Randolph, Near Deville and Parisppany - To answer your question - I would have to go again with the Targa - the reason are simply - More room and believe it or not the rear seats my kids love - no kidding, they rather go in my Targa than my wifes CLK55 ///AMG (which is a really BEAST) I love my 986S - it has recently become my Sunday am drive car - But once you go to the 996 Platform there is not going back to anything else. But it is nice that I have both.
