Unhappy 00 Boxster Died- rebuilt engine 8k. Need advice

Hi everyone. I have a 2000 Boxster that overheated and caused the head gaskets to blow and I need another engine. The shop is recommended by Porsche
and I trust them completely. They told me they could fix it, but it also needs some other work that would bring the total to around 10k with the engine replacement.
The vehicle has about 135k miles on it and other than that, in good shape, beautiful white with a black top, and tan interior. Anyway, I love my car but it does not look like it's
worth repairing. The shop offered to find a buyer for me or sell it for parts, which hurts to think about it being dismantled, but my choices are slim. Does anyone
have any advice on what I should do? Have it fixed after all or sell it and just buy another one? The shop advised they could fix it, they've had luck in the past with situations
like these, but there's always the chance things can go wrong and it will cause me more problems.

cut your losses. I have about 9 into my 77k mile 99 base manual. It is presentable/clean, interior is nice, but there are some bruises. I found it this past July with needs and spent the summer getting the mechanicals to a good place. They are out there. Take the 10 you would put into this car, add the 3 you get for the roller and see what you find. If the thought of another Porsche maintenance bill scares you, and you want Japanese reliability in a fun to drive roadster, remember Miata Is Always The Answer.

Sorry to hear about your car.
Used engines are ~$2,500. You might consider that route rather than rebuilding or parting out the car...

I have had good luck buying used engines, a 2000 2.7 on ebay for under $2000 CDN which today is about $1500 US and a high mileage 2001 3.2 for about $3500 US from a local recycler (scrap yard).

Thanks, any idea where I can find one for $2500? The shop told me they were about 8k...She's still sitting in my garage. Well when I say 8k, that was including labor. Does that sound about right?

Agree, swap in a used motor and enjoy it. You can get some money back from parting out your current motor.

$10k sounds cheap to me to have a shop out in a rebuilt or used engine. $10k doesn’t go far in an auto repair shop these days.
