Boxster go-kart build - Project Boxkart
I just finished my Boxster kart and I wanted to post it here on Rennlist since this has been a good resource along the way with this build. I know I've seen others post the idea before, but I believe I'm the first to convert a 986 into a kart. It remains street legal here in Colorado, and I built it to haul myself plus a friend and both of our mountain bikes up the canyon roads to MTB trails in CO. I plan to get involved with PCA here soon and hopefully bring it to a few HDPEs if they will allow it.
It started out as a crashed 2002 base 2.7 that I got for $1600 on facebook marketplace. It's taken about 700 hours of labor over the last 7 months to complete, but I built it all in my garage by myself. The final weight is 2150 lbs; I added around 200 lbs of steel for the cage, so I think I removed around 900 lbs total. Thank you to everyone posting questions and answers on the forum; I tend to be a lurker but wanted to share the final result as to provide some inspiration to others. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8656940eb1.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e5ce17f23b.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...83ccb37ecd.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...6d8cc10003.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4fe3537d84.jpg |
Looks good! ADD Lightness! "(DR. Porsche).

There have been a couple 986 cart builds, but that is some great work. Those bends aren't easy to do.
Great job |
Genius, the car Porsche should have built!
