I decided to finally make an account instead of just lurking in the shadows. My question is, I have a 2000 boxster base w/manual, I was going to replace my coolant temp sensor and I purchased the one for my car based off of pelicanparts and by simply typing in “2000 boxster coolant temp sensor”

the sensor however is a 2 pin sensor and the one on my car is a 4 pin. I was under the impression that 2000+ has a 2 pin and the late 90’s has a 4 pin.

Is is it possible my car is a very early 2000 and it may have just been crossed over before they implemented the Change mid year or late year? If anyone with a 2000 can chime in on their sensor style as well would help put.

Wouldn't the PET have a note as to the engine number or vin at which the change has been made? Doesn't seem to. An old version of the PET has part numbers ending in 996 606 410-00 for M96 21/22 and 405-01 for M96 20. And of course Porsche has gone cute again and hidden the PET where it used to be accessible online.

Yeh I’ve been unable to find any reference of when they actually switched over the ECU. It’s weird. Because cosmetically (interior) and emissions/vin stickers all say 2000

so im curious as too when the official switch was made for the ecu and everything. Seems kind of 1 off
