Default problem with new trailing arms

I replaced both trailing arms to get rid of a "clunk" when I go over a bump. I tightened the new arms in without a torque wrench and probably did not go to the 118 foot lbs required. Could this cause the clunk to remain? I have since replaced lower control arms and drop links but the clunk is still there.

did you replace the strut bar that goes forward? That is the one that clunks 98633104307

A cheap torque wrench is $50. A decent one is $150 to $200. Go get one and torque them properly. You are playing with fire by not torquing the bolts and nots correctlcty.

used my torque wrench to check and found that my torque was within 5 foot lbs of exact but noise is still there. Frustrating.

must be something else then, maybe put the top down and see if it still makes the noise, and check the wheel bolts for tightness along with checking the cv axles

will do. I am also going to drive the car with the engine compartment open (behind seats) and see if the noise might be coming from the engine mount. Thanks

can you specify exactly what you replaced? there are multiple sources for a clunk; upper strut mount, ball joints on the control arm (9), sway bar links, toe control arms (17), etc

looks like you replaced the most likely culprits; if you're still clunking, I'd next replace the upper shock mounts; if that doesn't work, only other thing to replace that I'm aware of would be the toe control arms #17

I agree. I am hoping that driving with the top down and the engine compartment open will help me identify the problem before I venture further.

Did you tighten things up under load? I'm thinking my mechanic told me I'd need to do this when I replace my suspension (at least the rear?)

Have you checked the rear stabilizer (anti-sway bar) rubber bushings?

yep. I changed them early on and when I replaced the control arm and the trailing arm I put them under load before tightening them. Am now starting to doubt my sanity. Is it possible to install trailing arms backwards? don't think so but who knows.
