My 986 S with 90k miles decided to turn over and not start yesterday as I sat outside McDonald's, I left it for 20 minutes, turned the ignition a few times and she then started. Then suddenly it started to cut out while stopped at traffic lights etc., on some occasions it will re-start right away and in some cases it won't and it usual happens when the car is at operating temperature.

From looking around the forum I have come across the below issue that may contribute to the hot start issue

EVAP Canister under fuel filler cap
Regeneration valve under manifold
Fuel pump relay
Fuel pump (Can hear it on ignition start)
Throttle position sensor
Camshaft Solenoid

I can also hear a whistle in the fuel tank and also a sound that can be heard inside and outside that can only be compared to blowing over a bottle top!!

I replaced the battery with a high powered unit and the issue went away for a few days, however last night after a short spin i stopped for coffee, it took 20 minutes to get it started and it cut out at 2 sets of traffic lights! My local Porsche Specialist had the car for over a week and could not find out why this is happening, they are taking the car again next week but I've little hope they will find the cause!


I know this is an issue but I can never seem to find a post with a definitive answer! This car is my daily driver and unless I can fix this issue I will be forced to park it up and by a new car or sell it and move on.
