DME question

Would a DME/immobilizer/key from a 987 work in a Boxster? Might be picking up a 07 S 3.4 that I think the immobilizer got wet. Haven't found any that are listed for a boxster but have found plenty for a 987.

It's my understanding the Bosch DME/immobilizer/keyfob is specifically programmed and coded to the VIN in the 987. In order words, it won't work. And, I'm pretty sure Porsche will not reprogram them for your car.

So what happens if the immobilizer goes bad? Everything must be replaced?

Just having difficulty finding everything for a Boxster, figured ones from a Caymen would work.

A fresh alarm/immobilizer unit will need to be installed and programmed to the DME and keys reprogrammed. They're all linked. I'm afraid it's an expensive thing to get corrected. Here's a recent link where the guy's dealership agreed to install a new alarm module and program new keys for $1100.00. That was a bargain. I've several threads where people have paid more than $3,000 to replace faulty alarm modules.

I know for a fact that for a 98 the dme/immobilizer/key can be swapped from another car and not need programming. Otherwise someone like ecu dr wouldn't be able to do their exchange program.

And, I've received hundreds of emails from nice Nigerians wanting to dump millions of dollars on my lap if I'll only give them my bank acct and SS information. haha :roflmao:

Seriously... you said you were considering buying a DME/keys/immobilizer from an '07 987 that had a "wet immobilizer". That tells me the immobilizer is probably not functional anymore. Therefore, that leaves you with a DME and keys only. Were you hoping the immobilizer would work? Trying to mate a newer DME system from 987 and install it on an older 986 seems like a fools errand to me. But good luck. Please report back good or bad. Cheers!
