Strange for me anyway.....
Ok, after having a 993 for 20 years which was a race car basically for a long time and worked on it myself knowing most everything if not everything about it, what is the right front lower grille object in there that is a small cylinder with a projecting stick that is string loaded?
I am sure some Boxster experts can tell me as I searched but found nothing.
Thanks!

My model has no ambient temp reading on the IP, but the sensor is there. I'm thinking either the sensor is used elsewhere (not just for ambient temp display), or it was cheaper to build using a common harness assembly. Just guesses on my part.

It ties into the A/C and heater controls along with the cabin sensor to determine optimum temperature and comfort in the cabin And for those models with an external temperature reading that is where it takes the reading.
Page 366 (sec 63-4) of the Bentley Manual describes it as 'outside temperature sensor' and page 606 (Electrical Wiring Diagram 74) shows it connected to the A/C system. If it is allowed to fall into the air inlet it can give odd reading and do strange things with the A/C. Mine did so thats why I know.

Main function is for the Mass Air sensor to determine air density. Colder air = more oxygen.
