Default Advice before some work

I'm getting ready to replace the motor and transmission mounts, 2004 S. Any advice or words of wisdom before I begin? I still need the parts, so where's the best source?

I did my motor mount a few years ago. I recall I got the old one out without too much grief.
Getting the new one in was a bit more trouble. I recall also that when I lowered down the engine a little bit, it was then able to get back in.
Trans mounts should be pretty simple, look on youtube for burners car videos, he has one where he pulls the trans mounts, but that is to pull the transmission out.
I would think if you support the trans and do them 1 at a time you should have no trouble.

While on the same topic, given that the Boxster is at the very least, 14 years old, is it time to replace both engine and transmission mounts?

Only if an inspection finds they are failing. I forget the mileage/age but a tech spotted a bad engine mount -- front mount -- in my 2002 Boxster and I had him replace it. In January of 2018 when I sold the car with 317K miles all engine and transmission mounts -- the replaced mount and the others which were factory original -- were fine.

I replaced the mounts this weekend. It took about 4 hours. The old engine mount was completely shot, the rubber was broken apart all the way around the inside of the housing. The car is greatly improved now and shifts quietly.

Hi Brett,

Thanks for the update.

Out of curiosity, and for the benefit of the forum, how much mileage does your 986 Boxster S have?

Car has 175k miles. I have a lot of maintenance records from the previous owner, but oddly they left this repair undone.
