Making a Cracking noise going over bumps, with the top up or down.

Do you mean "creaking noise"?
If so I had a creaking noise from the front end of my 2000 986 and it was the control arm bushings. That may be what you're hearing.

That would be my first suspicion as well. If that's the case, hose it down with some silicon spray and it should start sounding better.
