Question Upgrade Base 986 Brakes to S

I've searched a couple of hours & not found on-point discussion. What's involved in upgrade 1999 base 986 front brakes to 986 S ? Rotors increase 298 x 24 mm to 318 x 28 mm. Is there an adapter to move the caliper up or are S calipers & carrier change needed? I have 17" OEM wheels. Seems like this could be an inexpensive upgrade as rebuilt S calipers & new S rotors are available from many sources. Thanks.

Calipers, pads and rotors and you are good to go. You can also use the ones off of a 996 C2 or a 987 as they are the same as the 986 S calipers. No spacers required.

If you look for front rotors, I still have a pair of 986 S, that I removed from my car, when I bought a Brembo 6 piston large floating rotor kit.
They are in great shape, only 3 or 4 thousand miles.
(I do not have anymore the original S Calipers, sold these already !
Send a pm if interested.

why do you want to do this? Spec boxsters run stock brakes. On the street, or even moderate track work, the stock brakes are more than adequate with a set of better pads.

Pleasure and performance on track.
For example, gain per lap of this mod at Laguna Seca is around 2 sec. !
(I do not care to be in or out of the "spec", as I do not race.)
I can tell you that such setup makes a great braking difference over the OEM one.

Or, good to understand that better braking power ..is as important as better acceleration power (more HP on engine).
I do not know why, but everyone understand that more power is "top", while only very few would understand that more braking power is as important as engine power, i.e.: your comment : oem brakes are good enough !
For me, I see your comment like : the Boxster S (3.2 in my case) power is good enough.

Did you noticed that the last version of the Boxster Spyder do have also 6 pistons large rotors front brake ?

2 seconds at MRLS? I'd need proof of that one.

On the street its totally pointless.

2 seconds seems about right to me. .5s for the increased braking and 1.5s for the improved confidence in the brakes.
