Default Plenum

I have a 2000 Boxster, headers, exhaust, de snorkeled, vivid racing ECU flash. I just purchased a 74mm upgraded throttle body (#98660511501) can anyone direct me to a plenum I can use? I don’t want to buy a $800 IPD plenum, I was wondering if I can buy a used one off a 911 or something that could work with the upgraded throttle body....thank you in advance.

Hi Ray,

You can use a 997 plenum. It is also know as a distribution T or distribution tube/pipe. Search ebay. You can find them for under $50. Here is a link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Porsch...53.m1438.l2649

Good luck!

Also, there is a very active Boxster contingent on 986forum.com

Try spending a little time there as well; it is an excellent resource.

You can use a 996 plenum but you will have to change the intake hose.

what all do I need to use this plenum? The 2 side rubber intake attachments? Anything else? Bigger hose clamps?

Also what is better the 997 or 996 plenum/distribution T? Will they give me better performance with 74mm throttle body and as good as the IPD plenum?

Pedro’s Garage is a website that has a a lot of good information for the Boxster. He has an upgraded plenum on there. He also has upgraded fuel injectors and a few other goodies. I haven’t tried them myself but they sound good. Pedro is pretty involved with the PCA forums.

yup I seen all of them which were great by the way. What I really need to know are the dimensions/length of all the pieces from the throttle body to the MAF, also where you bought them please..

Siliconeintakes.com is one source but there’s lots of other sources at varying prices. E-bay is your friend here.

I'm amazed at how you fit everything in. I bought all the parts silicone pipes/997 plenum/Tb etc. I've tried to fit everything in but a little too tight. It sits/rubs on the metal edge and didn't feel comfortable leaving it like that. All the parts are sitting on a shelf now.

You probably need to cut back the elbow to give you more space. Over on the 986Forum you can check out the Radium King’s solution which I like a lot! Look for my posts in the technical section of that forum. I will be mentioning this in my upcoming video, Boxster Intake mod, epilogue.

Hi

I'm activating this thread as I'm planning to upgrade my 03 986 S.
Plenum + TB upgrade is on top of my list so I've got few questions:

1- would upgrading to a bigger Plenum & TB be restricted / affected if I kept the stock air box?
2- Any experience or data to show the IPD plenum is better than the plastic 996 or 997 plenums of the same diameter?
3- is there a pre-made tubing (similar to IPD tubing) to ease the installation?

I'd appreciate your thoughts & input in this matter..

Can any of these Mods be done on a 02' 2.7 ltr or is it only worthwhile on the 3.2 ltr engines Thanks Frank

We love people who search before starting a new thread !

I'm activating this thread as I'm planning to upgrade my 03 986 S.
Plenum + TB upgrade is on top of my list so I've got few questions:

1- would upgrading to a bigger Plenum & TB be restricted / affected if I kept the stock air box? No but you will get a lot more airflow by installing the 987 airbox
2- Any experience or data to show the IPD plenum is better than the plastic 996 or 997 plenums of the same diameter? Yes Flat 6 Innovations recommends them
3- is there a pre-made tubing (similar to IPD tubing) to ease the installation? I believe IPD has a hose.
I'd appreciate your thoughts & input in this matter..[/QUOTE]
