Default My Samsung car charger won't fit in cigarette charger

I just purchased a 2000 Boxster and tried to charge my Samsung Galaxy s6 in the car, in the cigarette lighter. The charger is too loose to fit into the outlet. I have to hold it in to get a charge. I know this sounds like a ridiculous question but thought I'd ask instead of buying random chargers and seeing if they fit. Does anyone know what type of car charger to purchase that will fit into the outlet? Was thinking of trying the generic ones that are sold at convenience stores/CVS.

try adjusting or bending the metal pieces so charger fits more snug in outlet

I'm trying so hard right now not to make sexist hole jokes. I think there's something wrong with me.

You might be posting in the wrong forum, but I would suggest to never use a generic no name car charger. Anything that's funneling power into a battery is something you want to make sure it well made.

Look up Anker or Aukey car chargers on Amazon, they are pretty cheap and well made/reliable. Also, since most of them charge at 2 amps, they will charge your phone much faster than the cheap ones.

Maybe it's the car, not the charger. Have you considered buying a 911 (991) and selling the 2000 Boxster? The outlet might work better and would save you the hassle of buying a new charger. Plus, the 991 is a great all-around sports car. Fantastic for driving through back country roads or even on long distance trips. They come in convertible (cabriolet) versions, too, if you have to have that top-down experience.

I'll ask a Mod to move this thread to the 986 Forum.

Those that poke fun at the Boxster, most always, have never driven a Boxster.

Rennlister *991* gave you very good advice. Some strategically placed electrical tape can also help to snug up the plug.

So true. My 258hp Boxster S was more fun to toss around than my 400hp 991S is.

We have a new member with an issue, and this is how you treat her? Give it a rest, please.

I had a Boxster S loaner once - fun car! If I could do with only two seats (I have kids and use the back seats in my 911), a Boxster would be a great drop-top option!

While my 2000 Boxster was still under warranty I had a similar issue. Dealer installed a different size receptacle & lighter at no charge.

The charger isn't the problem. The socket is larger than most American cars, so this makes chargers and other devices that plug in seem loose.
I'm not sure which cars use this larger socket, but you can get the smaller ones. I got mine from a dismantlers from another 986. Woody's Parts, LLC on Facebook or 986forum.com.

The difference in size between Euro and American car lighter receptacles is only about 1mm. We have a bunch of these chargers, but the best is an Aukey Qualcomm 3.0. It cost about $15 (double the convenience store ones). It has a proper UBS 3.0 plug and a standard 2.0 plug. We charge any and everything from it when traveling. It has a secure fit (because of more spring action in the side electrical connectors) and I think the higher price provides better electronics, especially the voltage regulator. I see them for sale in electronics stores everywhere.

By the way, some of the guys here can be a bit dopey sometimes. however, they also have a certain rough-hewed boyish charm about them; so, there’s that.
