Default Goodbye....

Wanted to post this here since I visited this forum often.

Guess it is time to say Goodbye to everyone here.

The Boxster is sold to a local dealer. (996 Turbo is sold too and gone.)

I have bought 2 new cars: 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack with 8-speed TorqueFlite and a 2018 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop 2-door with a 6-speed manual.

Decided I wanted to experience a couple of different cars.

Yes, after 15+ years -- from the time I bought the Boxster in January of 2002, when I bought the Cayman S in April of 2009 and the Turbo in June 2009 -- I'm without a Porsche.

I could be back in a Porsche though. I don't think I'll own the cars above as long as I have owned the Boxster or even the Turbo and when I replace one of the above cars it could be with another Porsche. I have never stayed with a marque as long as I have stayed with Porsche. I have never bought 3 of any brand of car before buying 3 Porsches. It is with some regret I am Porsche-less but I really just decided I needed a change.

(Have to admit being Porsche-less was softened a bit when I had the JCW's oil service done the other day. In and out in less than an hour and the cost? $97. The Challenger's oil/filter service is $125. And believe it or not I have bought the stuff do the oil/filter services myself. Also, let me add the Challenger has a 6.4l V8 putting out 485hp and 475 torque so it is not like I'm giving up everything important! The 8-speed auto (with manual shifting available at the shift lever or by steering wheel paddles) is a very good transmission for that car/engine. As for the JCW, don't let its size fool you. That JCW can be one scary fast car. In sport mode it is a little (rebel) green streak of lightning. The exhaust sounds like a rally car at full tilt through the woods. The 6-speed has rev matching. I can't believe how fast I can down shift that thing. I'm gonna love commuting in this car.)

It has been a lot of fun these past 8+ years. Wanted to say thanks to everyone who offered me help and guidance and advice. I appreciated it even though I didn't always acknowledge it.

I will visit this and other forums for a while -- though much less frequently than before -- in case any threads I have been active in needs some touching up. I'll leave my Rennlist account active I guess. Not sure how often I'll check for any private emails though probably often at first but less and less often as time goes by.

So I wish everyone the best for 2018 and beyond and goodbye.

Cool cars and congrats on your new toys

That being said, non-Pcar doesn't mean you have to stop hanging out on RL

Congrats on the new rides. I'm sure you'll enjoy them. I don't care if you own a Porsche or not, I always enjoy reading your posts and find them very informative. Maybe just hang around here even as a "user" if your membership runs out before your Porschelessness does.

Hey Macster!

Man, I came over from the 996 area to check out the Boxster forum and I can't believe I stumbled upon your farewell message. I'll be completely honest here... I'm surprised! Of all the people, I wouldn't have imagine you'd sell your Porsches for a muscle car and a mini. But who am I judge? I've owned three muscle cars and a manual trans Escort GT... loved every minute, but definitely not the same driving experience as the 911. However, it does come with at a cost... a big one at that. I dumped more money in my 911 in just two years what I put in both of my Camaros. Well anyway, I want to thank you for contributing to the forum. I learned a lot from your insight and hate that you'll be gone from the community. Seems like so many people have left the 996 forum in recent months. Sad.

Cheers in the new year!

Dang, always enjoyed seeing your input! Good luck with the other two, however it's only a matter of time before the "tick tock" (the count down to your next Pcar) starts again.

Congrats on the new rides Macster! I would love to get updates on your ownership experience of both cars as time passes and you pile on the miles.

I do hope you’ll be back in a Porsche eventually, your knowledge and enthusiasm for cars is definitely appreciated here.

Sorry to hear this, as you were the source for most of my fixes... I also have a MINI JCW (2017). Front tires last about 4k miles. When you figure out how to make "sport mode" the default at start-up let me know! I only don't run in sport mode if the pavement is wet.
