K&N air filters use oil. That oil costs the hot wire on the MAF throwing codes and sometimes damaging the MAF. Clean the MAF using electrical contact cleaner. Reset all codes and go for longish drive.

While in there use a nice oem air filter.

There re are tons of TSBs on this issue from most every automaker in the nhtsa database.

K&N hates me, but I stand by my claim that their product isn't nearly as good as they claim it is, and if you like your car you will stick with OEM air filters.

The purpose of an air filter is to prevent dirt entering the combustion chamber and scraping the cylinder walls and eventually getting into the bearings.

In both magazine reviews of oiled air filters I've read that contain comparisons, the oiled air filters allow more dirt (in both size of particle and quantity) than the stock filter they were comparing it to.

K&N hates me too probably.
