Default Airbag light on

Boxster 986 3.2S 2002. I have been trying to track down what's causing the airbag light to show. Fault readout is Fault 20, Driver's ignition circuit. I suspect this is being caused by Either the clock spring or Trigger Unit. On removing the airbag I found a wire orange/red which appears to have been cut. I cannot find any socket or connection which this wire may of been connected to. Is this just simply an extra wire for additional 'switches' on the steering wheel? I only have the tiptronic controls on mine.
Can anyone identify this orange/red wire?
How does one check electrical continuity through the clockspring?
Thanks
Dave
