I'm having an internal debate about selling my current car and picking up a 718. Ford build quality is "interesting" to say the least.

For a 718... are the half inch narrower 18s better? Sure you give up some width, but with the MUCH shorter tires you gain a LOT of oomph out of corners. Is the thrust worth it??

Hmm. Not sure. I guess you could run 18x8 and 18x10s, but not sure if the trade off would be worth it. Another advantage is that you can get an off-the-shelf reasonably priced and lightweight set of wheels from Tire Rack. Maybe run the Nexen 245/40r18 and 275/40r18? The RE71s come in 255/35r18 and 275/35r18, but they will be really small compared to stock diameter.

Really small was my goal. Way lower ride height and loads of thrust due to the gearing advantage with the 255/285 18" tires.

Off the shelf wheels is a HUGE benefit. The cheapest custom wheels are like $4500 for Signature wheels, right? Not exactly pleasant to drop $4500 on an autocross only set of wheels, but I'm planning on doing it for my GT350 next year (assuming it gets dropped into B Street) My stock wheels are something like 33 pounds a piece and the Forgelines are ~20 lbs a piece.

You can get custom Forgestars made for cheaper than you can buy OZs off Tirerack. The biggest con is having to wait a couple months for them to get made.

Any known issues on the 982/718 with PSM/ABS freaking out due to huge disparity in front/rear tire sizes from stock? I know 987s don't care at all, I've talked to a few owners about it. If there's an issue with that then running the 19s in 8.5/10.5 is the way to go.

If you're thinking for next year, I may have my car available. I'm waiting to see the specs of the soon to be announced 718 Cayman T (and hopefully it stays in AS). If it's anything like the 911 Carrera T, it will feature lightweight glass and less sound deadening. In addition, will most likely come standard with PTV, PASM, unique interior details, and other cool options like lightweight full CFRP bucket seats from the GT cars. Not a must have, but so tempting.

Don't forget the budget option I posted here. 19x8.5/19x10 for $900 for the set. Rear needs a spacer.

Your car is likely about exactly what I want build wise.... I'd expect the T to be in SS, but who knows.

Not AS legal. They are a VERY appealing choice for street/track use though, looks wise and cost wise.

I have this in my notes for the 981, option code XRT:

Front - 8.5 x 20 ET57 - 235/35 ZR 20
Rear - 10 x 20 ET50 - 265/35 ZR 20

Is the 718 different?

EDIT: yup, 718 gets a 10.5 rear. Dang.

Front - 8.5 x 20 ET 57 - 235/35 ZR 20 (88Y)

The wheels don't matter, it's all about the tire radius. Wider wheels do help give more ideal tire sidewall geometry, though (and make it easier to mount).

I'm aware. I should have phrased that differently. Will the 255/35-18 & 285/30-18 combo mess up PSM/ABS? It's pretty much exact opposite of stock tire diameters, ratio wise front:rear.

718 leading AS in Oscoda after day 1, I can have people look at tire sizes.

Oscoda is kinda too small to do a pro, course doesn't look too "normal." Still cool to see MR Porsches doing so well.

Both Cayman drivers in AS are often into the 1.9's for 60 foot. This was faster than the Corvettes on Hoosiers in SSR.
