2015 Auto-X Video Thread
New year, new autocross season!
Kicking off the new thread, I'll start us off with running my 2010 Boxster S at the NASA Chillycross @ Virginia Motorsports Park, Feb 1st: |
What the hell. We got 14" of snow here yesterday.
|
You can autocross year-round in Florida, you know :) As for here, was 50F and cloudy, but with 7 runs each, my codriver and I didn't have much issue getting enough heat in the tires (ZII*) to get them to grip well.

Couple years ago
ok not 2015 but one of my favorites. Bad camera mount sorry but shifter karts are pretty violent
|
FTPAX. Shot with my new GoPro 4. Looks amazing on my computer, but the youtube quality is lacking. Sorry about all the rattling- it's a bumpy airstrip and I didn't realize the camera was tapping against the mount. |
I forgot post to this thread, this is my effort from the SFR SCCA's season opener at Marina last weekend.
My best run: http://btwyx.com/Movies/AxFeb15MaBest.mov Cathy’s (my wife's) best run: http://btwyx.com/Movies/AxFeb15MaCBest.mov We're still learning how to drive a car powered by the other end, so we got beaten by several Fiesta ST in HS, not to mention the Fit in STF. |
Dixie 2015
I didn't do too well at Dixie this year, especially considering I placed 2nd last year. This is the first time I've had the pleasure of using the GoPro 4 with an external microphone. Sounds way better than the built-in microphone. Hope you enjoy the x51 muffler bypass soundtrack. |
First autocross of the year at Pungo, and I loved the course- new designer and he made it fast and wide open and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. I would have taken top pax for the event with this run had I not nicked a cone in the chicane with my right rear wheel, arrrghhhh. As it turns out, my wife beat my fastest clean run by 0.001 seconds, lol. Was her best finish at a local event, which is awesome though.
And, man, this engine sounds good with PSE. Interesting to watch the tires move dynamically under load, too. |
PCA PNWR autox #1, Bremerton, 21 Mar 2015 ~2secs slower than Ron Bauer in his DP Miata. I clearly could have pushed harder in the final slalom. |

First event at one of our bigger lots, the car worked great here in the high speed sections. You can see the new shift light hard at work too.

Time Attack PPIR
OK this is my first video, yes I will turn the Iphone next time. This was a event at PPIR in Colorado. They were doing 1/8 miles drags, Drifting, and time attack. This was the first time out with the Tarett GT front sway bar and more neg chamber than last year. It's a different car now. The car turns in better, but the rear moves around more. I may adjust the sway bar to the middle hole. Now if I can only learn to use the brake and stay in the gas longer. Last year I was over driving now I under driving :banghead:. I was 10 to 12 seconds off the modified cars. My best run was a 102.-- seconds but was dirty with 2 cones. One was on the corkscrew that was on the curb and they other was on the fast slalom on the back straight. Parts of this setup was fast and went to first gear twice. The loop around on the banking was first gear that was crazy off chamber. I took the gate at the bottom out a couple of times. And a tight 180 in the other bank turn. |
Managed to bobble 4 cones on my fastest run today! Er, well, maybe that 4th was a little more than a bobble. [But in my defense, that cone was 3" out of the box when I hit it; was visible in my cell phone video.] This is the first time I've pointed my (new) gopro backwards, and it was definitely an educational experience. I'm actually rather amazed how tight I was, and hoping I can improve based on what I learned.

Cool! Did those three you wiggled stay up?
Also, you have to slo-mo any cone smashes. It's mandatory. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ham43ksId...600/hDfZ_X.gif |
4 Attachment(s)
Amazingly enough, yeah, the first 3 stayed upright and in the box. I probably do it all the time and don't even realize it; I hit an awful lot of cones. :p The 4th was upside-down when it enters into frame...
This first cone stayed upright and in the box. Saw a courseworker running after this one and assumed I blew the run and took the kid gloves off after that- I mean, why bother holding back if the run's only worth bragging rights? Honestly, I was half hoping I could chase down the courseworker and get a re-run (2-lap course), but no such luck. Attachment 1359590 Lazy courseworkers, this one started half out of the box. Stayed upright and in the box after I wiggled it, too: Attachment 1359591 Courteous and on-the-ball courseworker has set the first cone back up, so I can hit it again! Still stayed upright and in the box: Attachment 1359592 Another lazy courseworker. This cone started 3" out of the box (visible in my cell phone video), and ended up WAY out of the box. you can see my rear tire is 1" outside the box so my line actually looks pretty good; weird I hit that with my front tire, usually I hit cones like this with my rear. Attachment 1359593 I hit a cone near the finish with the other side of my car, too. If I'd stayed clean, that run would have been top pax for the event. Instead, I had to settle for my slowest run because it was my only clean run, lol. |
